NWSL Marquee Matchup Highlights 2024 Schedule

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS – The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that FC Kansas City will host the opening game of the league’s inaugural season on April 13th, 7:35pm CDT at Shawnee Mission District Stadium.  The ‘Blues’ will play Portland Thorns FC in a matchup between two of the league’s premiere franchises.  The six other NWSL teams will play their opening games the following day.

“We are excited that the league has chosen Kansas City to host the first game in league history,” said FC Kansas City Team President, Brian Budzinski. “We feel the technical staff is putting together a team that can immediately challenge for an NWSL Championship, and this honor from the league reflects that.”

Fans will be able to see Alex Morgan and the Portland Thorns twice this season, Hope Solo and the Seattle Reign twice and finish the Independence Day weekend with a Sunday matinee against Abby Wambach and the Western New York Flash.

The ‘Blues’ will host every team in the NWSL at least once, with Portland Thorns FC, the Boston Breakers, Seattle Reign FC and the Chicago Red Stars each making an additional visit.  Likewise, FC Kansas City will travel to each team’s stadium once, making an extra trip to Portland, Seattle, Sky Blue FC (New Jersey) and Chicago.

FC Kansas City will play eleven regular season home games and at least one exhibition game (date and time TBA) at Shawnee Mission District Stadium, the third-largest venue in the NWSL.  The team is currently offering season tickets as low as $120, with single-game and group tickets going on sale March 18th.  Fans can reserve their tickets by calling 855.4KC.GOAL (855.452.4625) or visiting FCKansasCity.com.
