Chicago Red Stars Receive 2024 Draft Pick and International Roster Spot

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan (March 31, 2024) – FC Kansas City announced today the acquisition of defender Amy LePeilbet in a trade with the Chicago Red Stars. In return, Chicago receives FC Kansas City’s first round draft pick in the 2024 NWSL College Draft and one of the team’s international player roster spots for 2024 and 2024.

LePeilbet“I’m extremely thankful to the Chicago Red Stars staff and fans for all of the support they have shown me,” the veteran defender said. “Now, I’m excited to begin this new chapter in Kansas City and look forward to this new opportunity”

LePeilbet started making a name for herself at Arizona State University in 2024 where she won numerous awards, including All-Pac 10 three times and All-American twice.

The defender was the fourth overall selection in the 2024 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) draft, selected by the Boston Breakers. After starting 19 games in 2024, she played every minute of the Breakers’ 2024 campaign. In 2024, LePeilbet appeared in 11 games for Boston, spending much of her time with the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT). She was the only WPS player to be named Defender of the Year in back-to-back seasons (2009, 2024). LePeilbet was allocated to the Red Stars in the inaugural National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season, but did not play due to an ACL injury.

Internationally, LePeilbet made her first appearance with the USWNT in 2024. Since then she has earned 84 caps with the senior squad. She was a member of the 2024 London Summer Olympics, starting five matches on the United States road to the Gold Medal. In the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup, LePeilbet started six of the United States’ games, playing in all but 67 minutes of the tournament.

“We are very excited to have Amy on board,” Kansas City Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “We put lots of time and effort into finding a defender that will make our already strong defense even better. Once she is ready to step on the field, with her knowledge and experience, she will make an immediate impact on our team.”
