Goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart earned her league-leading sixth clean sheet of the season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 12, 2024) – FC Kansas City earned its second consecutive shutout and moved into third place in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) standings after defeating the Portland Thorns FC 3-0 with goals from Mandy Laddish, Amy Rodriguez and Erika Tymrak on Wednesday night in front of 2,982 fans at Swope Soccer Village.

Without midfielder Lauren Holiday and team leader Shea Groom due to injuries, Kansas City’s back line held the Portland Thorns’ offense throughout the first half. In addition, Portland’s Sinead Farrelly had to leave the match in the 32nd after a ball struck her in the face leaving her spot to Kendall Johnson.

Coach Vlatko Andonovski’s team came out to the field with an offensive mindset for the second stanza but it wasn’t until the 60th minute when Lee’s Summit, Missouri native Mandy Laddish put the Blues on the board assisted by Leigh Ann Robinson.

Five minutes later, Amy Rodriguez doubled the lead when she received a ball from U.S. Women’s National Team teammate Heather O’Reilly before simply tapping it to the back of the net making it 2-0 in the 65th minute with her second tally of the year.

Moments later, Erika Tymrak notched her third goal to seal the victory for the Blues assisted by Laddish making it 3-0 in the 76th minute.

Next up, FC Kansas City will try to extend their three-game unbeaten streak when they host the Boston Breakers on August 22 at Swope Soccer Village.
