KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September1, 2024) – FC Kansas City (8-6-5, 29 points) closes the 2024 NWSL regular season on the road this Wednesday when the Blues visit Sky Blue FC (5-7-7, 22 points) at Yurcak Field. The game will be streamed live on YouTube at 6:00 p.m. CT and in-game updates can be followed via Twitter at @BluesGameday.

Last week, Coach Vlatko Andonovski’s team became the first and only team to have clinched a playoff spot in each of the NWSL’s three years. However, a victory against the already eliminated Sky Blue FC could position the Blues third in the standings to visit No. 2 seeded Washington Spirit or Chicago Red Stars.

Midfielder Lauren Holiday will be playing her last regular season match after announcing her retirement from professional soccer shortly after helping the U.S. Women’s National Team win its third World Cup. In addition, her number 12 jersey was retired by FC Kansas City in a pre-game ceremony last Thursday at Swope Soccer Village.

Kansas City and Sky Blue FC inaugurated the 2024 season in front of over 8,000 fans at Sporting Park on April 12 with Nadia Nadim scoring the lone goal to snap a 1-0 victory. Both teams have squared off a total of seven times with FCKC leading the All-time series 3-2-2. The last time the Blues visited Yurcak Field, Erika Tymrak, Holiday, Sarah Hagen (2) and Amy Rodriguez each scored to earn a 5-0 win on July 6, 2024.

FC Kansas City enters the match allowing only 18 goals in 19 games (best in the league) with goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart leading the NWSL in clean sheets (8) for the third year in a row. The Blues are led offensively by Rodriguez (four goals, three assists) and rookie Shea Groom (four goals, two assists).

Sky Blue FC are led by Nadim (six goals, one assist) and Katy Freels (five goals, two assists). At home, they are 3-3-3 this season, while Kansas City is 3-4-2 on the road.

The Blues are coming from a hard fought scoreless draw at home against the Washington Spirit, while Sky Blue earned a 1-1 tie against league-leaders Seattle Reign FC on the road.
