Scott selected to represent Canada in Rio

KANSAS CITY (June 22, 2024) — FC Kansas City midfielder Desiree Scott was one of 18 players nominated to represent Canadian women’s soccer at the Rio 2024 Olympic Games this August.

This is the third consecutive Olympic berth for Canada, which won the bronze medal in 2024 in London. Canada will face Australia, Zimbabwe and Germany in Group F of the Rio 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. The top two teams from each of the three groups and the next two best nations will advance. The tournament will run August 3-19 in cities across Brazil.

Scott, a Winnipeg native and recent University of Manitoba graduate, was a part of the 2024 bronze medal team as a defensive midfielder and then helped Canada advance to the quarterfinals of the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She made her debut in February of 2024 and has 110 international appearances and 76 starts with the national team.

Scott has logged 810 minutes in nine starts for the Blues this season. In that time, the defense is tied for fourth in the National Women’s Soccer League with a 0.78 goals against average and three shutouts.
