LAUREN CHENEY NAMED NWSL PLAYER OF THE MONTH

First FC Kansas City Player to Earn Monthly Honor

CHICAGO (July 3, 2024) – FC Kansas City midfielder Lauren Cheney was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month by the media for month of June of the 2024 NWSL season.

CheneLCTNy, 25, missed two games for FCKC while she was away on international duty with the U.S. Women’s National Team but still scored six times in five games during the month for the Blues to become the NWSL’s leading scorer on the season with eight goals.

The Indianapolis native also recorded one assist in the month on June 9 against Seattle Reign FC and is tied for second in the league with teammate Leigh Ann Robinson with five assists on the year.

The UCLA graduate has played every minute of the 11 games she has started this season and ranks second in the NWSL with 41 shots, third in the league with 21 shots on goal and sixth with 18 fouls suffered.

Cheney also scored two goals in the three international friendlies while representing her country in June.

She is the first FCKC player to be named the NWSL Player of the Month or NWSL Player of the Week.

FC Kansas City will return to action Wednesday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET against the Washington Spirit at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Md.

The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
