NICOLE BARNHART NAMED GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR

PRIAIRIE VILLAGE, Kansas (Aug. 21, 2024) – FC Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2024 NWSL season. Western New York Flash goalkeeper Adrianna Franch and Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc finished tied for second in the voting. Franch was also second in the voting for NWSL Rookie of the Year.

Barnhart, 31, led the NWSL with 10 shutouts (see below for complete list) and ranked third in goals against average (0.95) and fifth in saves (67).

“This is definitely an honor for to receive this award, but I think it was a team award,” said Barnhart. “A lot of the credit has to go to the players in front of me. They make my job easier.”

The Gilbertsville, Penn. native recorded five shutouts in seven games between June 30 and July 28 – including three consecutive clean sheets in nine days against Seattle Reign FC on July 20, the Boston Breakers on July 24 and Sky Blue FC on July 28.

The Stanford product was also in net for the Blues’ entire league-record 10-game unbeaten run June 23 – Aug. 4.

FC Kansas City will return to action Saturday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. CT against Portland Thorns FC at Verizon Wireless Field in Overland Park, Kan. in the semifinals of the 2024 NWSL Playoffs live on FOX Sports 2.
