FC KANSAS CITY SIGNS KASSEY KALLMAN
Team Comes to Agreement with First Round Draft Pick
Prairie Village, Kansas (February 11, 2014) – With 60 days until the 2014 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season begins for FC Kansas City, the team announced today the signing of First Round Draft Pick, Kassey Kallman from Florida State.
Kallman was the fifth overall selection in the 2014 NWSL College Draft. She was a Hermann Trophy semifinalist and Honda Award finalist and was the first player from Florida State to be named ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Kallman was an important member of the U-20 US National team that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Japan in 2012. She played all 450 minutes of the qualifying games, leading the squad in minutes.
The tough defender will be an important part of FC Kansas City’s back line, one of the league’s best in 2013.
“Our team strategy relies on solid defense leading to quality scoring chances,” said Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski. “Kassey’s leadership and toughness will fit right into our team philosophy and working with Becky (Sauerbrunn) and Leigh Ann (Robinson) will help to make her an even better player.”
