Team Faces 2024 Regular Season Champion Flash

FC Kansas City heads to Rochester, New York for a midweek match against the Western New York Flash. The team is fresh off a resounding 4-0 victory over the Houston Dash, the Blues are looking to extend their winning streak to three games. The Flash most recently fought the Portland Thorns to a 1-1 draw last Saturday in a rematch of the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Championship game.

Kansas City heads into this match without three key players. Becky Sauerbrunn, Lauren Holiday and Amy Rodriguez are all with the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) as they prepare to play Canada on Thursday.

Western New York will be without four players who have been called to play with their respective national teams. Most notably, Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd will be with the USWNT while Sonia Bermudez and Vicky Losada will be with the Spanish National Team.

Rookies Jenna Richmond and Kassey Kallman have already played big roles in Kansas City’s game plans this season, and they will be relied on even more Wednesday with the players KC will be missing.

2013 Rookie of the Year, Erika Tymrak scored her first goal of the 2024 season last Saturday and will be looking to create more opportunities Wednesday night. With Rodriguez out for Wednesday’s game, Melissa Henderson and Morgan Marlborough will look to fill in the scoring void.

Defensively, Kansas City will try to extend their 182 minute shutout streak without the 2024 defender of the year. They will rely on Polish National Team defender Nikki Phillips and goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart to direct traffic and keep danger away.
