FC KANSAS CITY KICKS OFF 2024 NWSL SEASON

FC Kansas City kicks off the National Women’s Soccer League for the second straight season. On Saturday evening, the ‘Blues’ will host Sky Blue FC at their new home on Verizon Wireless Field at Durwood Stadium at 7:00p.m. CT. GAMEDAY INFORMATION GAME NOTES 2014 FC KANSAS CITY MEDIA GUIDE

Kansas City was one of the hottest teams throughout much of last season. They return the reigning Goalkeeper of the Year (Nicole Barnhart), Defender of the Year (Becky Sauerbrunn), Rookie of the Year (Erika Tymrak) and the Most Valuable Player, Lauren Holiday.

This explosive lineup was made even more dangerous with several key offseason acquisitions. The team made trades that brought forwards Amy Rodriguez and Liz Bogus to Kansas City along with Polish Women’s National Team defender Nikki Phillips (formerly Krzysik).

Led by Mexican international, Monica Ocampo, Sky Blue FC finished fourth in the NWSL table in 2024. They qualified for the final post-season position before losing to the Western New York Flash in the Semi-Finals.

This season’s squad boasts seven players with senior national team experience. However, U.S. Women’s National Team defender Christie Rampone will be forced to miss this opening match due to an injury.

Last season, these two teams split their three game series, with each team earning a win and a draw. FC Kansas City looks to retain its reputation for stingy defense while adding a scoring prowess from forwards Rodriguez, Bogus, Melissa Henderson and Morgan Marlborough.
