Amy Rodriguez Suffers ACL Tear, Will Miss Rest of 2024 Season

KANSAS CITY (April 18, 2024) – FC Kansas City forward Amy Rodriguez suffered a tear to her left Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during the second half of the 2024 season opener against the Boston Breakers on Sunday. Rodriguez will miss the rest of the season as she recovers from the injury, with the goal of returning to the field in 2024.

Head coach Vlatko Andonovski said, “I’m extremely sorry for what happened to Amy. She worked so hard to come back from pregnancy and looked better than ever before. It is unfortunate that she is not going to be able to play this season. We’ll miss her on the field, in the locker room, and in training. Her enthusiasm is contagious.”

Rodriguez missed all of last season with the birth of her son. In her first game back on Sunday, Rodriguez scored a goal and showed why she is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer (including playoffs). Joining the team in 2024, Rodriguez was an important part of the Blues’ back-to-back championship run in 2024 and 2024. Her score on Sunday clinched the teams’ first opening day win in franchise history.

“I’m heartbroken by this news, but I am thankful for all the support from my team, medical staff, family, friends and fans,” said Rodriguez.
