FC Kansas City Set to Host League Leaders - Game Now at 8pm

KANSAS CITY (July 21, 2024) – FC Kansas City returns home to Swope Soccer Village to take on the North Carolina Courage for the second time this season on Saturday night. The kickoff time for the game has been moved to 8:00 p.m. CT due to a heat advisory and unusually high temperature forecast for the Kansas City area.

Earlier this season, the Blues traveled to WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina to face the Courage. The game remained scoreless at halftime, however two late goals just seven minutes apart, from McCall Zerboni and Ashley Hatch, gave North Carolina the victory.

Over the weekend the Courage lost for only the fifth time this season. A 70th minute goal by Portland Thorns forward Hayley Raso gave the Thorns the 1-0 victory. Despite the loss, the Courage still remain at the top of the NWSL table with a record of 9-5-0.

The Blues also had another rough weekend as they traveled to Orlando to play their fourth out of five games on the road. Maegan Kelly scored her second goal for FCKC this season, however, Alanna Kennedy, Alex Morgan, Toni Pressley and Kristen Edmonds all had goals for the Pride making the final score 4-1.

FC Kansas City forward Sydney Leroux is currently in fifth place in the league for most shots taken. Just one spot ahead of her is North Carolina’s reigning Golden-Boot and MVP winner Lynn Williams.

For the first time in the past three games, FC Kansas City has a full squad. Lo’eau LaBonta missed the game against Sky Blue FC on July 8th, and Shea Groom the game on July 15th against Orlando, both due to red cards.

Forward Amy Rodriguez, who is currently recovering from her season-ending injury suffered in the season opener, is back in Kansas City and will be in attendance at Saturday’s game. She will be signing autographs for fans prior to kickoff.

The match is scheduled to kickoff at 8:00 p.m. CT. Due to the expected heat, FC Kansas City fans may bring an unopened bottle of water with them to the game. Swope Soccer Village staff will remove the caps at the gate.
