KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Oct. 27, 2024) - Reigning NWSL Champions FC Kansas City announced today the club has acquired U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Heather O’Reilly from the Boston Breakers. In exchange, Kansas City sent forward Morgan Marlborough and defender Kassey Kallman to the Breakers.

“We are very happy to have Heather O’Reilly on our team.  We have always admired her abilities.  We are also a little sad to be losing two quality players but we understand that in order to get quality you have to give up quality.” Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski said.

O’Reilly, 29, most recently helped the USWNT win the 2024 CONCACAF Women’s Championship and qualify to the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The East Brunswick, New Jersey native has been a member of the national team since 2024, scoring 36 goals at the international level. A three-time Olympic gold medalist, she holds the U.S. record for consecutive games played with 74 between 2024 and 2024.

“To be good we have to be better.  We were good last year and were able to capture the NWSL title but we have to continue to improve,” Director of Soccer Operations Huw Williams. “Adding one of the most accomplished players in the country should help us attain that goal.  We wish Kassey and Morgan all the very best with their careers and appreciate their contributions to our club”

Last season, O’Reilly played 1874 minutes in 22 games and led the Breakers with nine goals and five assists. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, she led the Tar Heels to NCAA Championship victories in 2024 and 2024 before being named the 2024 Soccer America Women’s College Player of the Year.

“I would like to thank the Breakers organization, my teammates, and the fans for their support and for their continued efforts to grow the game.  I’m excited for this next chapter of my career, and I look forward to helping FCKC defend the title.” O’Reilly said.

Marlborough, 23, played nine games for FC Kansas City in 2024, registering two goals. She is currently on loan with Scottish side Glasgow City FC. Kallman, 22, started in 18 games and recorded one assist in 2024.
