The Blues will play two forty-five minute games on Saturday to wrap up the preseason

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS (April 1, 2024) – FC Kansas City visited the Kansas Jayhawks for the third year in a row for a preseason match, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the defending National Women’s Soccer League champions thanks to goals scored by Erika Tymrak and Shea Groom at the Rock Chalk Stadium on Tuesday night.

With twelve days left until the home opener against Sky Blue FC, head coach Vlatko Andonovski used the match to try a new formation and watch his players possess the ball for the majority of the game.

Early in the match, Tymrak found the back of the net after hitting a perfect shot from the top of the eighteen that crossed the goal line just underneath the crossbar leaving goalkeeper Maddie Dobyns with no chances to make it 1-0 in the second minute.

Both teams settled for a one-goal game after the first 45 minutes where the Blues recoded 13 shots on goal. However, Kansas City’s most recent signing Shea Groom tallied her second goal as a professional after volleying a beautiful cross from Liz Bogus to increase the lead in the 53rd minute making it 2-0.

Throughout the match, the Jayhawks were unable to get past FC Kansas City’s back line, which had a stellar performance allowing only one shot on goal.
